POP3 is an email protocol which downloads and then deletes the incoming emails you are reading. It is particularly useful if you would like to have all of your emails downloaded from a mail box on your local device and then the emails to be automatically removed from the server.
In this tutorial we are going to show you how to configure your iPad mobile device with POP3 settings for the incoming mail service.
Let's begin by adding a new email account. This can be achieved if you access the Settings → Mail, Contacts, Calendars screen.
There you will be able to locate the Add Account option which you will need to use in order to begin adding your email account to the client. On the next screen you will be presented with the natively support email providers by your iPad. Since we are not providing a mail service related to these you will need to select the last option from the list - Other.
Then you will need to choose the Add Mail Account option (first in the list) so you can begin with the configuration of your email account.
On the next screen you will be presented with the simple configuration for your email account. The required fields here are your Name, Email Address, the Password for your email account and last but not least few words serving as a Description for the email account.
Once you are ready with these configurations please press the Next button so you can move forward with the setup. On the next screen you will need to choose the POP protocol from the buttons at the top:
If you scroll a bit down you will be able to proceed with the configuration of the Incoming mail server. There you will need to fill the Host Name (usually mail.yourdomain.com where the substitution yourdomain.com should be replaced with your actual domain name), User Name (fully qualified email address such as [email protected] where the substitution yourdomain.com should be replace with your actual domain name) and finally your Password.
Once you are ready with these settings you should proceed with the settings for the Outgoing Mail Server which can be found right below the settings for the incoming mail server. The values of the required fields are exactly the same as those you have used for the Incoming Mail server.
When you are finished with these settings please press the Next button and then on the next screen the Save button so you can save the settings.
You will be able to verify if the account is correctly added once you save the settings as it will be listed in the Accounts section of the next screen.
That is all you will need in order to configure your email service with exiting email account using the POP3 protocol.
Let's check the emails for the newly configured email account. In order to do so you will need to access the mail client for your iPad device by simply accessing the home page of the device and then by accessing the Mail feature.
Once the Mail feature presents you with its home screen you will be able to find the newly configured email account under the Accounts section.
Congratulations! You now know how to configure a new email account on your iPad using the POP3 mail protocol.
